Symposium themes

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations and explore practical strategies in sustainable teaching. The Organizing Committee of the UTEL Symposium, to be held at the University of Bahrain, Zallaq, Kingdom of Bahrain, on Wednesday 26th June 2024, invites proposals for paper and poster presentations in areas relevant to the symposium’s theme: Innovation, Sustainability and Excellence in Teaching and Learning practices in Higher Education, including but not limited to:

  • Inclusive learning and teaching in higher education.
  • The development of teaching excellence in higher education.
  • Active Learning & Student Engagement: Exploring innovations like flipped classrooms, gamified learning, project-based learning, and collaborative methods that prioritize student involvement.
  • Technology-Enhanced Learning: Examining the use of AI, virtual reality, immersive learning environments, and other technologies to improve learning outcomes and accessibility.
  • Personalized & Adaptive Learning: Highlighting innovations like adaptive learning platforms, individualized feedback systems, and data-driven approaches to tailor learning experiences to individual needs.
  • Assessment & Feedback Innovations: Focusing on new approaches to assessment, providing meaningful feedback, and promoting metacognition to enhance student learning.
  • Interdisciplinary & Global Learning: Exploring innovations that promote collaboration across disciplines, global perspectives, and intercultural understanding.

Participation Guidelines

Abstract submission guidelines
  • The corresponding author must provide the following information in the submitted abstract:
      • Contact data (correct spelling of first and last name, rank, affiliation)
      • Paper Title (Full paper title for the presentation)
  • A short specific title that indicates the nature of the study must be provided for the abstract:
      • Please do not submit titles in ALL upper case ALL lower case.
      • Submit the title in Sentence Case
      • The total length of the title should be no more than 200 characters, not including spaces.
  • Paper abstract should not exceed 250 words for either Oral [possible for publication @ JEPS] or Poster presentation.
  • Abstract must include a precise description of the study including problem, methodology, instrumentation and general findings or implications.
  • Key words [5 maximum] must be provided after the abstract.
  • Abstract will undergo blind review and the results will be returned to you generally within 3 weeks.
  • The full paper of the accepted abstracts will be considered for possible publication in the Journal of Educational and Psychological Sciences (JEPS), one of the journals published by the University of Bahrain:
      • Submitted papers to the JEPS must follow the journal submission guidelines.
      • Submitted papers will undergo the review policy followed by the JEPS.
Presentation methods

Paper presentation (15 minutes):

Guidelines for oral presentations:

  • Presentation should be prepared in standard presentation format accompanied by a PowerPoint slideshow
  • All the main parts of the study should be included, e.g. problem, research questions, methodology, key findings, and implications.
  • Slides shouldn’t exceed 25 slides.

 

Poster presentation (Format: A1):

  • Presenter should use a poster pinned to a poster board (standard size is 1800mm high by 900mm wide) to illustrate main parts of the study.
  • Content should be precise and focused to provide an excellent opportunity for networking, discussion and relationship building.

The accepted abstracts at the UTEL Symposium 2024 will also be considered for possible publication at the Journal of Educational and Psychological Sciences (JEPS), one of the UOB reputed journals. JEPS enjoys a high academic reputation at both the Gulf region and the Middle East and North Africa for its rigorous peer-review process, standards of publication, and scope, which covers macro and micro specialized topics and issues related to teaching and learning. The journal is also indexed by EBESCO and Google Scholar, which will enable those who manage to publish in it to reach a wide academic community who read and the follow the journal. The JEPS is also classified as an A journal for academic promotion purposes in some of the regional universities that might facilitate the fulfilment of the scientific activities for some participants in this regard.
